Frequently Asked Questions

What sets Sea Mount Boat Lifts apart from other boat lift manufacturers?

At Sea Mount, we go above and beyond industry standards in our construction and component selection. For example, our top drive unit beams use a 7” x 2.75” channel instead of the more common 6” x 2.50” channel. We also use high-quality components like Wheaton steel drive pipes, AMS marine hoist drives, aluminum bunks, and CERTEX-certified cables to ensure maximum strength, durability, and peace of mind for our customers.

Why do you use oversized channels in your lifts?
We choose a larger, 7” x 2.75” channel to provide added strength and rigidity. This design not only offers peace of mind when lifting heavy loads but also accommodates potential upgrades or increased boat sizes over time. A sturdier channel means a more reliable lift for years to come.
What type of welding do you use during assembly, and why?
All of our lifts are assembled using TIG welders with helium assistance. TIG welding creates a cleaner, more precise weld, and helium further improves the weld quality. Additionally, we weld sheave housings on the I-Beams to distribute the load evenly across the entire beam, reducing stress points and extending the life of the lift.
Why do you prefer Wheaton steel drive pipes over other options?
Wheaton steel drive pipes, also known as “alligator pipe,” undergo a proprietary 3-stage casting, tempering, and galvanizing process. This results in a much stronger and longer-lasting pipe compared to the commonly used foreign sprinkler pipe. By using Wheaton steel, we ensure greater resilience and reliability under heavy loads and in harsh marine environments.
What AMS drive components are and why you use them?

AMS has been manufacturing purpose-built marine hoist drives for over 65 years. Their gearboxes are specifically designed for boat lifts, unlike many competitors who use gearboxes intended for conveyor belts or copycat designs. AMS drives are made in Millersport, Ohio, to the highest tolerances, ensuring longevity, smooth operation, and the best possible performance in a marine environment.

What are the benefits of using aluminum bunks instead of traditional wooden bunks?
Aluminum bunks offer several advantages over wood. They won’t rot, split, or cause carpet tears, and they prevent the cradle from floating, which can lead to cable fouling. While aluminum bunks are a bigger investment upfront, they are more durable, lower maintenance, and align with our commitment to providing premium, long-lasting products.
How do you ensure the cables and crimps meet high safety standards?
We only use CERTEX-certified cables and crimps. CERTEX uses LOOS cable crimps that guarantee a zero-loss crimp, meaning you get 100% of the cable’s original capacity. While many manufacturers handle cable cutting and crimping in-house—which is acceptable—our partnership with CERTEX provides an extra layer of quality assurance and certification you can trust.
Are your lifts suitable for saltwater environments?
Yes. Our lifts use 316 stainless bolts and other marine-grade materials specifically chosen to resist corrosion in saltwater settings. From our TIG-welded aluminum structures to the galvanized Wheaton steel drive pipes, every component is designed to withstand the challenges of both fresh and saltwater environments.
Do you handle the installation process as well?

Absolutely. We offer full-service installation to ensure your boat lift is set up correctly and safely. Our experienced team will work with you from initial consultation to final testing, ensuring that your dock, boat lift, and any related accessories are perfectly aligned with your needs.

How do I determine which boatlift model is right for my vessel?
Our team can help you assess your dock’s configuration, water depth, boat size, and weight to select the right lift capacity and style. Because we use oversized channels and premium components, our lifts provide robust support for a wide range of boat sizes. Contact us, and we’ll guide you through all the options to find your perfect fit.
